LOA
Length Overall- total length of boat from bow to end of stern not including bowsprit.
LWL
Load waterline length- point from where bow emerges from water to where stern emerges from water. Used for calculating potential speed of boat.
Draft
vertical distance from water surface to the deepest part of the boat (bottom of keel). "My boat draws 3 feet"
centerboard
removable panel which can be raised or lowered to change the draft of the boat. "My boat draws 6 inches with the board up and 4 feet with the board down."
freeboard
measured vertically from edge of deck to waterline. Important determinant of interior space. More freeboard, the more room in the cabin.
topsides
sides of the hull above the waterline, not a measurement.
beam
the absolute widest part of the boat
