Crash point

occurs when 2 objects moving toward each other, or when one object is moving toward a stationary and the gap in between them get smaller.

Wrap point

occurs when any part of the machine rotates. PTO is most common wrap point.

shear point

occur when the edges of 2 machine parts move across or close to each other to create a scissor-like area that can cut through skin, clothing and body parts.

pinch point

occurs when 2 machine parts move together, and at least 1 of the parts make a circle.


ex) gears, belts, or chain

Burn points

occur when machine parts get hot. ex) of hot spots/burn points: mufflers, engine blocks, pipes, and hydraulic fluid

freewheeling parts

these parts continue to move after the power to the machine has been shut off. remember to stop the tractor's engine, disengage,the PTO, and wait for the machine to come to a complete stop.

stored energy

occurs when energy has been confined , and is released unexpectedly. ex) spring, hydraulic systems.

thrown objects

occurs when materials are discharged from the machine. hazerds could be rotating fan or knife blades used to cut, grind, or chop materials on mowers, chippers.
