What causes crush syndrome?

A compressive injury in which the cells are compressed and die, releasing electrolytes which can cause dysrhythmias, renal failure, etc. Muscles release myoglobin which can block kidney tubules, and potassium.

When should you suspect crush syndrome?

When a large muscle mass has been commpressed for greater than 1 hour OR a patient trapped for greater than 4 hours with compromised circulation.

How do you treat crush syndrome?

Sodium bicarb, Albuterol, Glucose, Insulin, morphine.

What PSI can cause injuries in hydraulic injuries?

As low as 100 psi

Early signs of organophosphate poisoning

"baby sludge"- salivation, lacrimation, wheezes

What drug should you not use in RSI and a patient who had an organophosphate poisoning?

Succynlcholine
