Ad Hominem

Against the man, against the person. An argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author or person presenting the argument.


e.g. Bill: I believe abortion is morally wrong


Dave: Of course you would say that, you are a priest.

Ad Hominem Tu Quoque

Hypocrisy. A fallacy is committed when concluded that a person's claim is false because it is inconsistent with something else a person has said or what a person says is inconsistent with her actions.

Appeal to Authority.

1. Person A is (claimed to be) an authority on subject S.


2. Person A makes claim C about subject S.


3. C is true.
