The responsibility of the pope, together with the bishops, to teach the Church the true meaning of what God has revealed.

A person who dies for his or her faith; the word means "witness".

A truth of our faith that we cannot fully understand but that we believe because God has revealed it to us.
ichthys (ich-thee-is)
A symbol that looks like a fish, used as a secret code by the early Christians. (The Greek word for fish is an acronymn for 'Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior") acronymn for fish.
incense

The special help the Holy Spirit provides to protect the church from error in matters of faith and morals.

A moral virtue that gives us the strength to respect the rights of others and enables us to give God and others their due.
Logos
The greek word for "word". It is one of the names given to the Second Person of the Trinity, who is called the Word of God.
Magnificat
The name we give to Mary's great prayer of praise to God after she was told she would be the mother of Jesus.
meditation
A kind of silent prayer in which we use scripture and our imagination to help us listen to God and respond with love.
mystagogia (mista-go-gee-a)
A time after baptism when newly initiated Catholic adults come to understand more about their faith.
indulgence
A share in the saving merits of Chirst which removes all or part of the punishment due to our sins.
Mystical Body of Christ
An image used to describe the Church as the community of those who are united with Chirst and with one another like the parts of one body.
