Origin: The epicranial aponeurosis (AKA Galea aponeurotica)

Insertion: the skin of the forehead, and the orbicularis occuli muscle.
1) Frontalis

Action:
Raises eyebrow
Origin: The occipital bone.

Insertion: The epicranial aponeurosis (Galea aponeurotica).
2) Occipitalis

Action:
Assists in raising the eyebrows.
Origin: Lateral side of the
lateral pterygoid plate.

Insertion: Articular disc and capsule of the tempormandibular joint(TMJ), as well as the manible.
3) Lateral Pterygoid

Action:Some fibers assist opening of the jaw, some fibers assist closing of the jaw. Some fibers align the articular disc of the TMJ, which prevents grinding of the articular condyle.
Origin:The bones of the orbit of the eye.

Insertion:the eyelids.
4) Orbicularis Oculi

Action: Closes the eye.
Origin:zygomatic bone.

Insertion:the corners of the mouth and orbicularis oris muscle.
5) Zygomaticus Major & Minor

Action: Elevating the angle(corners) of the mouth, as in smiling.
Origin:Temporal and parietal bones(temporal fossa)

Insertion:Coronoid process of the mandible.
6) Temporalis

Action: Closes the jaw(chewing/mastication)
Origin:The zygomatic arch.

Insertion:The angle of the mandible(the superficial side)
7) Masseter

Action:Closes the jaw(chewing/mastication)
Origin:Medial side of the lateral pterygoid plate

Insertion:The angle of the mandible(the deepside)
8) Medial Pterygoid

Action:Closes the jaw(chewing/mastication)
Origin:The subcutaneous fascia near the clavical.

Insertion:the subcutaneous fascia of the lower face.
9) Platysma

Action:Depresses the angle of the mouth(frowning).
