Brachiocephalicus m.
Attaches to arm and neck

Wide, thin cervical portion attaches to dorsal midline of neck

Mastoid portion is narrower and thicker and attaches to the mastoid process of the skill (caudoventral surface of skull)

ACTIONS: pulls head to one side if one muscle contracts; arch the neck if both contract; pull the limbs cranially
Trapezius m.
Caudodorsal to the cervical portion of the brachiocephalicus m.

O: dorsal midline of neck and thorax, from mid-cervical region to mid-thoracic region

I: spine of scapula

A: elevate the limb
Latissimus dorsi m.
large, flat, triangular muscle that runs from thoracolumbar fascia to the medial surface of the humerus

O: spinous processes of thoracic and first few lumbar vertebrae via thoracolumbar fascia

I: teres major tuberosity

A: draw limb caudally; flex shoulder jt when limb not bearing weight; extend shoulder jt when weight bearing
Rhomboideus m.
Cranial portion is broad and thin and attaches primarily to the dorsal border of the neck with a small slip that attaches to the head

Caudal portion is shorter and thicker and attaches to the dorsal midline almost to the caudal border of the trapezius m. It attaches to the dorsomedial border of the scapula.

O: caudal surface of skull, dorsal midline of neck/thorax to the midthoracic region

I: dorsomedial border of scapula

A: elevates the limb; pulls dorsal scapula closer to body
Omotransversarius m.
Strap-like muscle lying between the cervical portion of the trapezius m. and the cervical portion of the brachiocephalicus m. It runs from the shoulder to the transverse process of the atlas (1st cervical vertebra)

ATTACHMENTS: distal end of spine of scapula caudally, wing of atlas cranially

A: pull the limb cranially or pull the neck/head to one side
Superficial pectoral m.
O: from cranial sternum across to crest of the greater tubercle

I: proximal to insertion of brachiocephalicus m.; cranial border of proximal humerus

A:adduct the limb
Deep pectoral m.
O: full length of sternum

I: lesser and greater tubercles of humerus

A:pull limb caudally; extend shoulder jt when lim is bearing weight; pull body cranially when limb is bearing weight
Serratus ventralis m.
O: lateral aspect of last five cervical vertebrae and first seven or eight ribs

I: serrated face of scapula

A: support trunk
