Psychosomatic
- General medical conditions affected or exacerbated by psychobiological factors
- bronchial asthma, gastric ulcer, psychiatric condition brings on medical condition
Somatoform
- Symptoms SUGGEST a medical disorder, however, physical changes are not found

Body Dysmorphic Disorder: additional info
- Many people who have multiple plastic surgeries have DDD
Conversion D/O: additional info
- they are dramatic, but doesn't bother them/not worried about it
- convert psyhological difficulty into physical symptoms unconsciously
- present with their perception of what that illness looks like, but if suggest "usually people..." then the next time will do that
- conversion decreases the anxiety
- a physical defense mechanism
Hypochondriasis criteria
- preoccupation with fears
- preoccupation persists despite appropriate medical tests and reassurances
- other d/o are ruled out
- preoccupation causes significant impairment in social or occupational fx or causes marked distress
Pain D/O criteria
- pain in one or more anatomical sites
- causes significant impairment in fx or causes marked distress
- pain associated with psychological factors
- symptoms not intentionally produced or feigned
- Pain may be associated with a psychological and/or medical condition
Body Dysmorphic D/O criteria
- preoccupation with some imagined defect in appearance
- preoccupation causes significant impairment in social or occupational fx or causes distress
- preoccupation not better accounted for by another mental disorder
Depersonalization D/O criteria
- Persistent or recurrent experience of feeling detached from an outside of one's mental processes or body
- reality testing remains intact
- the experience causes significant impairment in social or occupational fx or causes marked distress
Dissociative Amnesia criteria
- one or more episodes of inabiltiy to recall impt info (usually of a stressful nature)
- causes significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other impt areas of fx
Dissociative Fugue criteria
- sudden, unexpected travel away from home or one's place of work with inability to remember past
- confusion about personal identity or assumption of new identity
- symptoms cause significant distress
DID criteria
- existence of 2 or more distinct subpersonalities
- at least 2 of these subpersonalities take control of the person's behavior
- inability to recall impt info too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness
