Why is Carbon Dioxide removed from the body?
Hydrogen ions are released as it builds up lowering the pH of the blood making it acidic.
It also reduces the oxygen carrying capacity as it binds to hemoglobin.
Define Excretion.
Removal of metabolic waste from the body.
What happens in Transamination?
Liver converts one type of amino acids to another amino acids.
What happens in deamination?
As liver can't store amino acids it converts them to lipids and carbohydrate. It does this by removing the amino group forming keto acid which is respired to release energy or converted to fat and stored. The ammonia is very soluble in water and toxic so its converted to urea before excretion.
How does the liver break alcohol down?
Converts ethanol to ethanal with help from ethanol dehydrogenase releasing reduced NAD. This is then converted to ethanoic acid by aldehyde dehydrogenase releasing reduced NAD.
Ethanioic acid + acetyl CoA enters krebs cycle.
