What is Alkalinity?

The ability of water to resist changes in pH, the amount of buffering capacity in the water.

Why do we line ponds?

Water of low alkalinity experiences large fluctuations of pH while water of high alkalinity experiences little fluctuations of pH. Adding lime to ponds adds buffering capacity to water stabilizing the pH.

What is Hardness of water?

The amount of calcium, magnesium, and sometimes iron in the water.
