The main idea of a paragraph states the author's most important point about the topic of a paragraph. I had to know the main idea of this book that I had to read for class.
ch. 7 Topic Sentence- the main topic
The topic sentence, also called the main idea sentence, is the sentence in a paragraph that includes the topic and the author's main point for the paragraph. the topic sentence usually has the main idea in the sentence.
ch. 8 Pie Charts- In circle way to understand percentages
also called circle graphs, show a whole unit (100 percent) divided into into individually labeled parts or sectors. I used the a pie chart to understand the data.
ch. 8 Tables- charts in a box form
also called comparison charts, grids, or matrix's, use columns and rows to organize information on various topics or to show data to use to solve problems. I made tables to understand my math equation.
ch. 9 Annotating- highlighting
is the process of highlighting, underlining, marking marginal notes, or marking specific information in printed materials. when I read over the material I made annotated marks.
ch. 9 Ordinals- numbered sequence
are words that signal a numbered sequence of items. When I wrote my paper in ordinals to help me remember the what I wrote.
ch.10 Critical listening- listening and analyzing
is the process of concentrating intently on a speaker's message with the goals of understanding. intercepting, analyzing, and critiquing the content of the message. I had to use critical listening when the teacher was talking, because I had a test the next day.
ch. 10 Empathic listening- listening to emotions
is the process of concentrating intently on a speaker's words with sincere intent to understand that person's feelings, emotions, and thoughts related to a specific topic or situation. I had to use empathic listening when I was talking to the teacher to help find out what the problem was.
