- people are upset and seek change. - leader arise 2- resource mobilization - acquire office, equipment, peoples time, money 3- organization stage - set up your division of labor 4- institutionalization - set up the bureaucracy 5- organization decline - maintaining the bureaucracy becomes the main focus - collective excitement dies and people leave the movement. |

- based on custom - leader is the law <transition of power- we know who the next leader will be. 2- legal-rational - based on written rules - leader is subject to the law - don't know who next leader will be, but know how they will be choose. 3- charismatic - based on outstanding personality traits - leader is the law < transition- appoint next leader - doesn't always work - put rules into place on how to choose next leader. |

- must win an election to get representation/ -2 party system. -usually "centrist" politics. 2- proportional representation - representation is based on the % of votes a party receives. - multiple party system - allows for more "radical" politics reactionary * bonus -tends to have coalition governments. -coalition governments tend to be unstable. |
