The Compromise of 1850
The North: California was entered into the Union as a free state. Slave trade was banned in Washington D.C.

The South: Popular Sovereignity would decide slavery in the rest of the Mexican Cession. Fugitive Slave law allowed now allowed runaways slaves to be arrested
Missouri Compromise
Maine was admitted as a free state and Missouri was admitted as a slave state. States above the imaginary line would be free states and those below would be slave states.
It also allowed owners a right to find any runaway slaves
Uncle Tom's Cabin
A book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was a fictional story about a slave and his master.
The North: Slavery now became a moral issue to Northerners not just a political one
The South: They said the book was a form of propaganda and did not give an accurate picture of slavery
