Describe the relationship between European settlers(Spanish, French, English and Dutch) and American Indians?

Spanish - Indians and Spanish had good and bad relationship. good- Indians got new tools and learned how to grow new crops. bad - Spanish gave Indians disease


French - French made friends with Indians and assisted them in battles with their enemies. French made Indians their business partners with fur trade and farming.


English - English feared the Indian attacks.


Dutch - wanted peaceful relationships with Indians and made trade deals.

Trading Post's were one of the cornerstones that drove the fur trade and subsequent exploration of North America by Europeans.


French built a trading post called Quebec and French, soldiers , missionaries, traders and fur trappers would go there to trade.

Why did Roanoke fail?

Sir Walter Raleigh tried to start a colony in


Roanoke but the settlers were more interested in looking for gold and fishing and left when that did not work out and supplies ran low. Finally when John white returned the colonists had disappeared and carved on the doorpost was the word "Croatoan" and to this day no one knows what happened.

The Dutch Settlement hired him as the governor of New Amsterdam. He had a wooden leg and was called peg leg pete. He governed for 17 years

In 1664, The Duke of York, without firing a shot took over it and renamed the colony New York.
