  • Back

cell membrane

made up of proteins, phospholipids and glycoproteins and it’s function is to control the movement of substances in and out of the cell, has receptor molecules that can respond to chemicals and it can be folded into microvilli to increase surface area for absorption

nucleus

contains DNA in the form of chromatin providing instructions for protein synthesis and contains nucleoplasm. It also contains the nucleolus which synthesises ribosomes from rRNA and proteins

mitochondria

double membrane, inner membrane folded into the cristae which increases surface area. Contains the matrix which contains respiratory enzymes for aerobic respiration to produce ATP

cell wall

made of cellulose(plants), murein(bacteria), chitin(fungi) to provide strength and rigidity and to withstand pressure

algal cells

they have flagella for movement, chloroplast for photosynthesis, cell wall made of cellulose and can be both unicellular and multicellular
