Communitarian

-Focus on society, like minded, selfless


-Strives for Harmony & Conformity


-"Community as a Whole" individual must sacrifice for the common good. Group stability

Libertarian

-Based on individual & personal ethics (individual freedom)


-Diversity, competition, inner directed motivation


-Maximum freedom of expression


-Suspicious of group minded individuals

Three Classes of Ethical Theory

1. Deontology: Duty Bound


2. Theological: Consequence


3. Subjective: Personal

Dentological

Based on duty, principle orientated. Stresses goodwill. Religion, Reason, Moral leaders. (Categorical Imperative)

Teleological

Consequence based ethics, ties to predict consequences of Action A v Action B.



Utilitarian: Choose that acton will bring about the most good for the greatest number of people.



Egotistic: Best action to benefits one's self.


Personal- Subjective

Intuitive, emotional, spiritual based, moral sense toward right action. Source of Guidance: mystical, God, intuition, emotion, conscience, instinct.

Aristotle's Golden Mean

Moral virtue is the appropriate means between two extremes.



Cowardics-COURAGE- Rashness

Sense of Duty, what is right for one is right for all



ex. Always be truthful in reporting

Mill's Principle of Utility

Balance good over evil. Seek the greatest happiness for the greatest number. Will convey the best results for the most.



FLAW: who determines what is happiness.

Rawls' Veil of Ignorance

Creates absolute equal environment for fairness. Equal liberty for all. Neutralize economic & Social differences.
