**Muscularis (and GES) species difference
Dog: striated muscle throughout
Cat: smooth muscle in distal 1/2-1/3, rest skeletal
Esophageal phase of swallowing

-penetrate gastric mucosa and migrate through arteries to aorta then migrate to esophagus where develop into adult
-granuloma in caudal esophagus, aortic thrombosis/aneurysm, could become neoplastic
-chronically could lead to HO, diskospondylitis
-caudodorsal mediastinal mass on thoracic rads in ~40%
-Tx: surgery, doramectin
Dysautonomia
-young, free roaming dogs; cats
-idiopathic, generalized autonomic neuropathy
-Dx: definitive=histopath; miosis w/pilocarpine, neg ART, no flare w/intradermal histamine
