Attentional Capture
Attentional capture occurs when an irrelevant stimulus involuntarily receives attentional priority (Folk & Remington, 1998).
Explicit Attentional Capture
takes place when a salient and unattended stimulus captures attention and leads to awareness of the stimulus (Simons, 2000).
Implicit Attentional Capture
Implicit attentional capture refers to the initial transient shift of attention, which may affect performance on another task, although does not necessarily lead to conscious awareness of the attention-influencing stimulus (Most & Simons, 2001; Simons, 2000).
