What is menarche?
Menarche = the first menstrual period, tends to come later in highly trained athletes in sports such as gymnastics/ballet. Median age = 12.4 – 13 vs 14.5 for gymnasts (small, lean bodies).

What are Oligomenorrhea and Ammenorrhea?
Oligomenorrhea = abnormally infrequent or scant menstruation or menses, occurring at intervals greater than 35 days
Amenorrhea = absence of menstruation
**Dystunction may occur in 5-10% or higher of female athletes
what in the difference between primary and secondary amennorhhea?
Primary is absence of any menstruation in a women who is 16 or older
Secondary is absence of menstruation after first period
what are the four major converns with exercise during pregnancy?
1. Reduced uterine blood flow leading to fetal hypoxia
2. Fetal hyperthermia associated with increase in mother’s internal body temperature
3. Reduced carbohydrate availability to the fetus
4. The possibility of miscarriage and other dangers to the final outcome of pregnancy
