Convey
To make somethng known to someone. (EX. What does the author convery [make known] in the passage or story.)
Infer
To form an opinion based onfatcs, clues, and evidence. (EX. Based on what you have read in the story or passage, what can you infer about John and Grace's relationship?)
Impact
"The result." Often describes when readers are powerfully affected by something in a story. (EX. What is the impact of the word "exceptional" in the passage?)
Connote
(A synonym of "implies") Meaning behind a word. (EX. The word "childlike" connotes innocence.
Personification
Can mean giving a non-living thing human characteristics. (EX. The wind roared.) OR A person used as an example to show a certain quality. (EX. Uncle Same personifies partriotism.)
Extended Metaphor
When a comparison of two things lasts for several sentences, a paragraph, or even throught an entire story or passage. (What point is the author trying to make, with his extended metaphor that compares life to a spiderweb.)
