Describe blepharitis
Chronic bilateral inflammation of lid margins
Describe Hordeolum
Localized infection of sebaceous gland on lid margin (Stye). May point inward (meibomian gland) or outward (Zeis' gland).
Describ chalazion
granulomatous inflation of meibomia gland; chronic inflamatory process -> lipogranuloma.
Describe the clinical presentation of Hordeolum
Painful, erythematous, often pointed nodule
Describe the clinical presentation of chalazion
Firm, well-demarcated nodule, usually symptom free with minimal tenderness, usually away from lid margin.
Describe conjunctivitis
Inflamation of palpebral/bulbar conjunctiva or both, w/ vascular dilation, cellular inflamation, and exudation.
Describe bacterial conjunctivitis
Self-limited, 10-14 days, clear cornea, no nodal involvement, no blurring of vision. Contageous.
Describe viral conjunctivitis
Often associated w/ URI, adeonvirus. Sore throat, high fever, periauricular/submandibular adenitis. Mucoid discharge. Contageous.
Describe allergic conjunctivitis
Associated w/ seasonal rhinitis, generalized conjuctival injection, itching, discharge, cobblestone appearance of palpebral conjuctivae
Describe corneal abrasion
Watery discharge, photophobia of infected eye, foriegn body sensation; Most common eye injury in anesthesia.
