Paragraph

A paragraph is a collection of related since it's dealing with a single Topic

To be as effective as possible a paragraph should contain each of the following unity coherence a topic sentence and adequate development

Topic sentence

Identifies the main idea of the paragraph also States the point the writer wishes to make about that subject

Is at the beginning of a paragraph often the 1st sentence generally enough to express the paragraphs overall subject but it should be specific enough that the reader can understand the paragraphs main subject and point

Support/development

Specific evidence and analysis that provides a deeper level of detail then your topic sentence

Coherence

Coherence is the trait that makes the paragraph easily understandable to a reader

It includes repetition of key ideas and appropriate transitional expressions

Unity

The entire paragraph should concern itself with a single focus

If it begins with one focus or major point of discussion it should not in with another or wonder within different ideas

Transitional expressions

Transition words and phrases are used to relate ideas

Riders may use transitions within paragraphs or between paragraphs so that the ideas flow smoothly between sentences and between paragraphs
