Identifies the main idea of the paragraph also States the point the writer wishes to make about that subject |
Is at the beginning of a paragraph often the 1st sentence generally enough to express the paragraphs overall subject but it should be specific enough that the reader can understand the paragraphs main subject and point |

Specific evidence and analysis that provides a deeper level of detail then your topic sentence |

Coherence |
Coherence is the trait that makes the paragraph easily understandable to a reader |
It includes repetition of key ideas and appropriate transitional expressions |

Unity |
The entire paragraph should concern itself with a single focus |
If it begins with one focus or major point of discussion it should not in with another or wonder within different ideas |

Transitional expressions |
Transition words and phrases are used to relate ideas |
Riders may use transitions within paragraphs or between paragraphs so that the ideas flow smoothly between sentences and between paragraphs |
