The first major action in the story that sets the story in motion (gets the ball moving)

Rising action

Incidents which carry the plot along. Tension and conflicts builds, often includes Flashbacks, Foreshadowing, Conflicts, and Suspence

Climax

The highest point of interest in the story when characters solve his/her problem


Usually the point of highest emotion

Falling action

Lose ends of the plot begin to tie up. The conflict(s) and climax are taken care of.

Resolution

The final workings of a story's conflict


All of the loose ends are tied up (usually).


Narrative twist: a surprise ending

Protagonist

The character that strives to solve the conflict. The main character we follow usually the 'good guy'

Antagonist

Creates conflict for the main character, often portrayed as the 'bad guy' or the villan

Flat characters

A minor character with one or maybe two sides to their personality.


Characters are usually unrealistic and little is known about them

Round characters

Characters with believable and complex, believable personality, they are lifelike and have a realistic approach to situations.

Dynamic character

Dynamic character changes in important way because of plot events.

Static chatacter

Opposite of dynamic characters. They dont change in the course of the story(when given a chance). Have the same personality throughout.

Stock character

Stereotypical characters that are easily recognized as "types". Dosent matter which story they're in, they are always the same.


Ex. Dumb jock, geeky scientist, the nerd.
