declarative
a statement. ends with a period.

A sentence is a complete thought. A fragment is not a complete thought.
independent clause
A group of words with a subject and a predicate that can stand by itself as a sentence.
dependent clause
cannot stand alone. it depends upon the independent clause to complete it's meaning. starts with who, which, that, because, when, if, until, before and after.
simple sentence
contains one independent clause.
compound sentence
contains two independent clauses connected by a conjuction.
complex sentence
contains one independent clause
and one or more dependent clauses.
compound/complex sentence
contains two or more independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.
