Teachers, students, staff and visitors today I will be talking about video game addiction. Most of us spend a decent amount of time playing video games. A lot of people claim that their close ones are addicted to videogames and try to distance them away from it as much as they can. Overuse of gaming is considered to be more than 2 hours per day! To do that, video gaming has to push other things out of your life such as homework, hanging with your family and playing with your friends, even eating less! Not to mention that it will give you sudden behavior changes.
Even if you don't consider yourself addicted but you are routinely annoying your parents or siblings while gaming, think how it could be changing your personality. Do you get angry when your parents ask you to stop? Why is that? Are you angry with them? Maybe you’re angry about not getting to the next level of the game. Why should we allow a game to frustrate us? Don’t let a game take over your life. The next time you’re feeling angry while gaming don’t get mad at bystanders, get even with the game.
There have been many incidents where people try to take video games away from someone they consider addicted and things don't go really well. A 15-year-old ran away from home on thanksgiving in 2008 after his parents took away his Xbox due to his falling grades and excessive play. His body was found weeks later, about 3 miles away. Another incident that shows how video games can control your life, is a 15 year old boy skipped school for 3 weeks to play 16 hours a day.
He told his school that he will be having surgery and waited till his mom left to work, and started playing. If you get too attached to games, you might not see how you’re changing, but the people around you will see that you slowly change for the worse. This shows that video game addiction can have a negative affect towards people around you and yourself.
Video game addiction happens slowly. According to the Council on Science and Public Health in the US, addiction to video games seems to occur more likely in children who start playing video games at younger ages. Video game addiction has always worried people and support groups have started appearing online to aid the people in need. Some clinics have opened up to people that are addicted and try to help them. Most of the people that actually attend are being forced by close people in their life.
A lot of doctors start to consider video game addiction just as bad as drug addiction.A lot of people deny that they are addicted and don't try to seek help, even though they pass the normal hours and behave very strangely. Video game addiction can change your life with a blink of an eye. You could be excelling in school and all the sudden your grades drop because of your excessive play. Addiction can completely turn your life around, mostly for the worst.
There is ways to try to avoid video game addiction such as trying to finish other things before getting on, which can help you get less hours on the game, and you would slowly ease out of the average hours you used to play. You can focus more on school and get your homework done before you get on, which can 1.Help you get your grades up and focus on school and 2. get less time on video games.
Try to keep lowering the time you play each day/week to get you more suited to low hours. This will keep you more organised with time and help you ease off the addiction.Try to realise that you are addicted and need to do something about it. If you keep denying that you are addicted, things will not get better.
Video game addiction has gone bad really quick and is becoming a worldwide problem. A lot of people are getting worried how more and more people are getting addicted and nothing is helping the people in need. With how things are looking, people see video games as their number one priority in life. This is the twenty first century and technology is advancing rapidly. The fight against video game addiction has grown within the past 20 years and If things don't change, video game addiction will grow out of control and won't be seen as a problem because of how frequent you see it.
