What is a simple sentence?
One independent clause.
What is a compound sentence?
Two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction.
What is a complex sentence?
One independent clause and one or more dependent clauses.
What are coordinating conjunctions?
Denote equality of the relationship between the ideas they join.
What are correlating conjunctions?
Denote equality, but they also make the joining tighter and more defined. ex: both, not only, either, neither, whether, just as.
What are subordinating conjunction?
Allow the writer to show which idea is more important. It supplies a time, reason or condition.
What does FANBOYS stand for?
For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So. they are coordinating conjunctions.
What is an adjectival clause?
Works to modify the subject. Will include a verb.

1) In place of a conjunction to connect two independent clauses in a compound sentence. 2) Separates items in a series that contain commas.
Where are colons used?
After a greeting in a business letter, preceding a list or series, to separate title from subtitle, to set off a quote with speech tags.
What is a subject?
A subject is the person, place, thing or idea that the sentence is about.(It will be a noun or pronoun)
What is a predicate?
It tells what the subject is doing or what is being done to it.(It will contain a verb)
What is a preposition?
Link nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in the sentence. Usually indicates temporal, spatial or logical relationship of it's object to the rest of the sentence.
What are the four types of sentences?
Declarative(makes a statements), Imperative(gives a command), Interrogative(asks a question) and Exclamatory(expresses strong feelings).
What is a comma splice?
When a comma is used in place of a semicolon to join two independent clauses without a conjunction.
How would you correct a comma splice?
By putting a semi colon in place of the comma or by adding a conjunction after the comma.

1) To show possession ('s) 2) Replace missing letters in contractions.
