Energy work and power

Energy : the capacity to do work

in joules

Principle of Conservation of Energy:

The principle of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed but can be converted from one form to another. The total energy in n isolated system is constant.

Energy Loss:

Frictional and drag forces convert some of the total energy of a swinging pendulum to thermal energy.

This thermal energy is dissipated to the surroundings and cannot be converted back into the kinetic energy or gravitational potential energy of the pendulum.

Work:

Work done by a constant force on an object is the product of the force and the distance moved by the object in the direction of the force.

W= F x S

KE:

E = 0.5 x m x v^2

GPE:

E = mgh

Power:

Rate of work done or rate of energy conversion.

P = E / t

The si unit of power is watt, one watt is defined as the rate of work done or energy conversion of one joule per second.
