STEP 1
DA passes mirror & explorer to Dr. Then pass 2x2 gauze. Then pass the anesthetic syringe. While the Dr. does that the DA rinses the area w/ air/water syringe & aspirates the excess water w/ HVE tip
STEP 2
The DA/Dr. places the rubber dam on the affected tooth. The DA should inform patient of the purpose of the dental dam & let them know if they have any questions/concerns, let the team know
STEP 3
The Dr. creates opening in tooth w/ handpiece & bur. The DA should keep the rubber dam free of debris.
STEP 4
The Dr. uses slow-speed handpiece & round bur to remove caries & access the pulp chamber. DA may quickly rinse area to improve Dr. vision
STEP 5
The Dr. will use the endo. spoon excavator to remove caries & endo. explorer to locate pulp chamber & canal openings
STEP 6
The DA passes barbed broach for the Dr. to remove pulpal tissues from within root canal. Possibly might need multiple broaches depending if the Dr. have more than 1 root canal
STEP 7
DA passes a #10 & #15 reamer w/ stoppers to measure the length of the canal. The DA exposes a radiograph so the Dr. can measure the length of the canal w/ a file or reamer. Radiograph is recorded in patients chart
STEP 8
DA passes additional files until proper width & length of canal are achieved. The size & length of final file is recorded in patients chart
STEP 9
DA passes irrigating syringe w/ irrigating solution to the Dr. The DA must keep tip of HVE very close to the tooth so the irrigating solution is not splashed around on the patient or dental team
STEP 10
DA passes paper points w/ locking cotton pliers & continues to pass paper points until the canal(s) are completely dry
STEP 11
DA passes small cotton pellet containing medication to the Dr.
STEP 12
A master gutta percha point is selected that matches the width size of the last file used. DA exposes a radiograph to verify the proper length & seal
STEP 13
DA mixes endo. sealer to creamy consistency & pass it to the Dr.
STEP 14
DA passes endo. spreader & additional accessory gutta percha points & continues to pass the spreader & points until each canal is full.
STEP 15
DA passes the endo. condenser & prepares the torch. DA holds some 2x2 gauze & holds HVE tip close to the tooth.
STEP 16
DA ensures that the HVE tip aspirates any smoke & receives the melted gutta percha from the Dr. w/ a 2x2 gauze
STEP 17
DA prepares the temporary filling material & passes the Woodson. The DA passes a lightly dampened cotton applicator to the Dr.
STEP 18
DA uses the HVE & air/water syringe to ensure that the rubber dam is rinsed free of debris. The dam is removed & the DA freshens the patients mouth by rinsing & aspirating.
STEP 19
DA dries the tooth & passes the articulating paper to the Dr.
STEP 20
DA exposes a final radiograph & provides postoperative instructions to the patient.
