1. Thyroid hormone synthesis inhibitors : Propylthiouracil Methimazole Carbimazole 2. Inhibitors of iodide trapping : Thiocyanates, Perchlorate Not used due to high toxicity 3. Hormone release inhibitors: Iodine Iodides of Sodium and Potassium Organic iodide 4. Thyroid tissue destroying agent: Radioactive iodine 131I Also Sodium iodide 123I for diagnostic scan 5. Other drugs: Propranolol ( a nonselective beta adr blocker) Atenolol ( beta 2 blocker) Diltiazem ( Ca++ channel blocker) Dexmethasone ( a corticosteroid) |
