Procedure
|
EMT I and P
1) obtain an unused kit 2) remove tubes and vacutainer device from the collection kit 3) the draw kit contains -disposable vacutainer collection device and four prelabeled collection tubes (green, lavender, blue, tiger) 4) initiate peripheral IV site, collect specimen by connecting the vacutainer device to the IV catheter 5) collect specimens in the order -green -lavender -blue -tiger 6) discard the vacutainer device into a sharps container 7) seal bag with blue tape 8) complete the info on the kit label, remove two of the control numbers from the bag to affix to the white and yellow copies of the PHCR, 3rd is for the hospital record |

improperly labeled specimens will not be accepted by hospital personnel
