Tension Headaches

most common type of headache. these headaches caused by muscle contractions in the neck and head and are attributed to stress

Migraine Headache

2nd most common headache. caused by changes in the blood vessel size in the base of the brain.

Sinus Headache

Caused by pressure that is the result of fluid accumulation in the sinus cavities

Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) (Stroke)

is an interruption of blood flow to the brain that results in the loss of brain function

Hemorrhagic stroke

most common type of stroke. accounts for 80 percentof all strokes.


when blood flow to a particular part of the brain is cut off by a blockage (CLOT) inside a blood vessel.

Transient ischemic attack (TIA)

When stroke symptoms go away on their own in less than 24 hours

seizure

a temporary alteration in consciousness.

generalized seizure (fka Grand mal seizure)

typically characterized by unconsciousness and generalized severe twitching of all the body's muscles that lasts several minutes or longer.


results from abnormal discharges from large areas of the brain.

Partial seizure

begins in one part of the brain. patients may complain of numbness, weakness, or dizziness with no change in the patient's level of consciousness.


May also cause twitching of the muscles and the extremities.

Tonic- Clonic seizure

bilateral movement characterized by muscle rigidity and relaxation usually lasting 1-3 minutes

Status epilepticus

seizures that continue every few minutes with out the person gaining consciousness or last longer than 30 minutes
