Expressed Consent |
The type of consent when the patient verbally acknowledges that he/she wants you to provide care or transport |

Informed Consent |
For consent to be vlid the patient must be informed about the nature of the treatment being offered along with risks benefits and other possible treatments. |

Implied Consent |
There is implied consent if the patient is unable to give a rational informed decision about care. This includes the patient being unconscious, intoxicated, mentally impaired or suffering certain conditions such as a head injury. Implied consent should only be used if there is threat to life or limb. |

Emancipated Minors |
Individuals who, despite being under the legal age in the given state, can be legally treated as adults based on certain circumstances. For example, if they are married, a member of the armed services, or a parent. A minor who is a parent can also give consent for his own child.

In loco parentis |
If a child is injured in a school or camp setting a teacher or school official can be used in place of a parent.

A competent patient is able to make rational decisions about his or her well being.
