Superficial burns

only the epidermis (caused by a flash of heat, hot liquid, or the sun...)

Partial thickness burns


involves not only the epidermis but also portions of the dermis.




S/S:


Superficial partial thickness burns:blisters, pink and moist skin, soft and tender to touch




Deep partial thickness burns: thick walled blisters rupture, skin is red and blanched white, patient can still feel pressure at the site, poor capillary refill to the burn site.

Full thickness burns

involves all the layers of the skin
