Gestational Hypertension

Pregnant pts with hypertension, abnormal weight gain, edema, HA, epigastric pain, and visual disturbances. Untreated can lead into eclampsia.

Eclampsia
|
The most serious manifestation of the hypertensive disorder of pregnancy. It is characterized by grand mal seizure activity.

Dose and route for eclampsia
|
Magnesium Sulfate 2-4 grams slow IV over 20 to 30 minutes. If an IV cannot be obtained, the IM dosage is 2 grams in each Gluteal or deltoid.
