Jamie Parker PResented with?
A torn rotator cuff in the right shoulder, broken nose, facial bruising, deep scratches, puncture wounds on right arm with a clean break to the radius, a minor concussion
Cause of injuris
Dog attack
Preliminary action
X-ray- confirmed nose and right radius were broken
CT Scan= no concusion despite woozyness Butterfly bandages and a soft cast to the right arm after resetting the radius to the proper place Sutured scratches on the arm |
What happened after he regained consciousness
Informed of the extent of his injuries, parents took time to arrive, quick psych eval because of scared and confused. Concussion he did have
Surgery?
Emergency to re-set the nose, but postponed for 2-3 hours because of business. Nose was reset successfully and x-ray confirmed. Then facial mask given
Next day after Nose reset?
Surgery on the rotator cuff. I did not do the surgery, but reviewd that day the results and the post-op for nose surgery.
Post surgery routine for Jamie?
In-house orthopedic surgeon and I decided on 2x a week for 6 weeks of PT.
Rest of 10 Days, including PT |
Is PT common?
It is routine, but can have a dim outlook if the patient does not attend therapy or reinjures the arm. Dim is extensive nerve damage to the shoulder which might last months, or a deterioration of the muscles that exposes the area to further trauma
Last time you saw Jamie and how was he doing?
The nose and radial break were healing well, but the shoulder was of concerned. It is my PROFESSIONAL OPINION that Jamie will likely not recover totally from his injury (limited motion.
WHY no full recovery
Either did not attend physical therapy or follow at home guidelines, or subsequent trauma, but most likley that the lack of recovery is due to the severity of the injury.
