Syncope (Fainting)

Signs - Feeling warm or flushed, nausea, rapid heart rate, perspiration, pale, low BP


What to do - place patient in subsupine, loosen clothing, have ammonia inhalant ready by waving user nose, have pigeon ready, monitor vitals, call 911 if unresponsive

Angina attack (heart)

Signs - Tightness/squeezing of the chest, pain on left shoulder, pain on left side of face


What to do - call 911, position patient upright, medicate with nitroglycerin (tabs or spray), Amin oxygen, monitor vitals.

Stroke (cerebrovascular accident)

Signs - Paralysis, speech problems, vision problems, possible seizure, difficulty swallowing, headache, unconscious


What to do - call 911, CPR if needed, monitor vitals.


F - face drooping


A - arm weakness


S - speech is off


T- time to call 911

Hyperventilation

Signs - rapid shallow breathing, light headed, tightness in chest, rapid heart beat, lump in throat, panic


What to do - place pt in comfortable position, use quiet tone and calmness, have to breath in cupped hands

Asthma attack

Signs - coughing, wheezing , increased anxiety, pallor, cyanosis, increased pulse rate


What to do - inhaler, call for assistance, pt in upright position, admin oxygen, monitor vitals

Anaphylaxis

Signs - I’ll feeling, vomiting, short of breath, heart arrhythmia, drop in BP, loss of consciousness


What to do - pt in supine position Epi pen , call 911, cpr if needed, oxygen, vitals

Seizure

Signs - Unconscious, increased body temp, rapid heart rate, increased BP


What to do - 911, remove materials from mouth, pt in supine position, protect pt from self injury

Diabetic (Hyperglycaemia)

Signs - excessive urination, thirst, acetone, blurred vision, rapid pulse, low BP, fainting


What to do - ask when and what pt ate last, ask if they took insulin , get insulin , call 911, CPR if needed, vitals
