press the test button and observe the light for 1 sec
how do the generator buttons look?
In and dark
What will the APU be able to provide electrical power?
95% rotor speed + 7 sec
After the APU comes online, what caution message would we expect to see on the eicas?
APU GEN OVLD
If u need the climate control, how long should you wait before pressing the APU bleed button?
3 minutes if conditions allow
What is the difference between the crew and the observers crew mask?
the observers mask has no vent valve for smoke goggles and the flow indicator is installed on the supply hose.
When do the engine generators come online?
56.4% n2
what is the normal position of the GPU button?
out and dark
how many volts does the APU generator produce?
28V
How many main batteries are there?
2
How much power does each main battery produce?
24V, 44 amps
What type of main batteries are there?
nicad
How long will the main batteries last in an electrical emergency?
40 min
Can be increased to 45 if u shut off the pitot 3 heat when not in icing conditions.
How many APU start attemps does the 40 minutes of main battery power assume?
3 attemps
If the main battery temp exceeds 70C, will they go offline?
no you get an eicas message
What should u do if the main battery exceeds 70C?
turn the respective battery switch off
Is there an EPC item for battery over temp?
yes
When would you press the essential power button?
When u are told to do so in AOL 1 which in this case would be if you had an electrical essential transfer fail
What is an electric essential transfer fail?
When the batteries are powering all of the DC buses
In case of an electric transfer fail, what would the PFD, MFD and EICAS look like?
normal
What are the main purposes of the CENTRAL DC BUS?
It connects the GPU and APU to the electric system, allows all load sharing between buses, allows battery 2 to be charged.
How many generators need to be online to automatically power the Shed Buses?
3 or more
How can you power the shed buses with less than 3 generators online while on the ground?
put the shed bus knob to the override position.
Can you power the shed busses with less than 3 gens in flight?
no
what happens if you turn the bus tie switch to the off position?
it opens the bus ties regardless of any command from the electric system login.
What happens when the bus ties switch is in the auto position?
The electrical system logic controls the bus tie conactors.
What happens when the bus tie switch is in the over ride position?
The bus ties close regardless of any command from the ESL unless one of the GCU's detect an over current condition.
What is the definition of an electrical emergency?
Loss of all 5 generators in flight
In the case of an Electrical emergency what would the PFD, MFD and EICAS look like?
The EICAS would work but the PFD and MFD would be blank
What is an Electrical Emergency Abnormal?
You have three seperate electrical networks, the batteries are supplying the essential buses and the bus tie connectors are open. (false electrical emergency response by the EDL).
In the case of an Electrical Emergency Abnormal, can you reconnect the 3 networks?
No but you can start the APU so that the batteries will no longer be powering the Essential busses and the batteries will be charging.
Where does the AC Inverter get it's power from?
DC Bus 1
What does the back up battery do?
Provides stabilized power to the GCU'S
When is the back-up battery connected to the electrical system?
When battery 1 knob is selected to auto.
Can external power charge the back-up battery?
No
How much power does the back-up battery provide?
24 volts 5 amps
Where is the back up battery located?
In the floor in front of the FO.
What type of battery is the back-up battery?
Lead acid
When is the Ground service bus powered?
When the GPU is connected and the batt 1 and 2 selectors off.
When will you get the EICAS message "Emergency lights armed"?
When the emergency light switch is in ethier the on of off position.
When the fire handle is pulled, which valves close? What appears on the EICAS when you pull the handle?
1. H-Hydraulic SOV
A-Engine bleed SOV
l-Engine Lip anti-ice valve
F-Fuel SOV
2. All but the Engine Lip
What type of fire detection system do the power plants have?
Pressure sensor tubes, 2 per engine
How many fire extinguisher bottles do the engines have?
2
If the fire extinguisher in the LAV discharges, will there be any indication in the cockpit?
No
How does the LAV extinguisher bottle work?
When the heat in the LAV trash reaches 77C, the head will melt and discharge the bottle.
What is the fuel capacity of the EMB?
11,100 LBS
How would you know if you had a failed fuel pump?
You could hear the clicking of the solenoids in the cockpit behind the first officer as the system cycled through the operative pumps. you could see the pump letter change on the fuel page of the MFD as the system cycled through the operative pumps.
Do all the pumps fuel pumps (A,B and C) receive their power from the same source?
No, pumps A&B are powered by the essential bus. Pump C is powered through the DC bus.
How many Nav lights are on at one time?
4 (1 in each wing and 2 in the tail)
If one Nav light fails, how do you select the other one?
Via the toggle switch in the Relay box behind the Captains seat.(maintenance)
What do you turn on when you turn on the red beacon switch?
The red beacons and the DFDR
How many hours of information can the DFDR hold?
