Tempo
The speed of the music.
How fast is the music? (see seperate vocab list for Italian terms)
Does the music speed up? Slow down? Or is it steady throughout?
Texture
How 'busy' the music is
Monophonic - single sound (all playing/singing the same thing at the same time)
Homophonic - In harmony (melody and chords/ music moving in the same direction in harmony)
Polyphonic/contrapuntal - different parts weaving in and out of each other.
Timbre
The quality of sound (of the instruments).
What kind of instruments are playing?
Have any effects been added to the instruments/voice?
Are the instruments electronic or accoustic?
Silence
Rests.
Rhythm/Duration
The length of the note (how long each note is held). Patterns of long and short notes.
Has the composer used short notes? Long held notes or a combination of the two? How are rhythms developed within the piece of music?
Dynamics
How loud or soft the music is played.
Is the music loud or soft? Are there canges in the loudness of the music? Are the dymanmics the same throughout?
Structure
How the piece of music is constructed.
How many sections of music does the piece have? For example is it in verse /chorus form? Binary form (AB)? etc.
