Time of Election |
Eph 1:4 Before the creation of the world. God choose men before he made them to demonstrate that human effort is excluded. He is Lord of salvation |
|
Basis of Election |
God's Mercy, not our effort (Rom 9:16; 2 Tim 1:9) His love and purpose (Eph 1; Rom 8) |
|
Double Predestination |
God elects the wicked Rom 9:22-24 and 11:7 |
|
Implications and Applications of Election |
1. All glory to God, we praise him for his grace (Eph 1:3; 2 Tim 1:9), mercy (Rom 9:16), sovereignty (Eph 1:5) and wisdom (Eph 1:9), in thanksgiving and humility. 2. Security and Assurance (Rom 8:28-39) 3. We are to be confident that all things are under his control (Rom 8-9, 11) 4. Share God's love and forgiveness (Eph 4:32) 5. Mysterious but foundational, do not neglect 6. Grow in perseverance and service (2 Tim 2:10) 7. God's plan has a goal that includes us |
|
Conclusions on Foreknowledge |
God's knowledge is personal and involves his love being set on them. God knew Israel alone among the nations (Amos 3:2); in the same way he knows his NT people (Rom 11:2). In 1 Pt 1:1-2 and Rom 8:29 the OT corporate concept is individualized. God entered into a relationship with his people. |
