Eleanor Roosevelt was one of the only first lady's who was also a teacher, writer and political power. Not only did she make more than FDR but was also more accomplished than him. Eleanor had a very broken childhood. As a young girl she was thought of as plain compared to her beautiful mother. Her family was a rich well known family. She was the oldest of three children. Her two siblings were Elliott Jr. and baby Hall. When Eleanor was five her father, Elliott left to try to cure his addiction to alcohol but when he returned he was not cured. This is when Eleanor's mother decides that the family will go on a trip to see European Health resorts. When this did not help Elliott he entered a french sanitarium while the rest of the family returned home. One year later Eleanor's mother died of diptheria. Only a year later Elliott Jr. died of the same disease. Baby Hall and Eleanor stayed with there grandmother and rarely saw there father. Not long after Elliott Jr.'s death Eleanor's father died. Five years later she was sent to a boarding school called Allenswood but returned home three years later. That December she turned eighteen. She married FDR a couple of years later. Together they had four children Anna Roosevelt, James Roosevelt, Franklin D. Jr. and Elliott. Sadly Franklin D. Jr. died of influenza a year after his birth.
