Definition of elder abuse
Intentional actions that create harm or create a serious risk of harm, whether or not intended, to a vulnerable elder by a caregiver or any other person who stands in a trust relationship with the elder.
Failure by a caregiver to satisfy the elder's basic needs or to protect the elder from harm.

intentional or unintentional refusal or failure to provide goods or services that are necessary to avoid physical harm, mental anguish or mental illness.
Physical Abuse
deprivation of basic need or actual or threatened infliction of physical pain, injury or violence.
Emotional/psychological abuse
infliction of mental pain, distress or anguish through verbal or non-verbal acts.
Sexual abuse
nonconsensual sexual activity, contact, injury or violence.
