Why are antipsychotics prescribed to the elderly?

They are prescribed for psychosis, including shizophrenia, mania, depression with hallucinations, as well as degenerative disease such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's Parkinson's Disease and Dementia

Side effects may include: dry mouth, sedation, nausea, constipation, sweating, blurred vision, tremors, dizziness and tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movement of the tongue and mouth sometimes arms and legs). Can become permanent if untreated.
