Class: func; nonsteroidal antiinflammatory, nonopiate analgesic, antipyretic chem.; Propionic acid derivative
Action: Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by decreasing enzyme needed for biosynthesis; analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic
Use: Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, primary dysmenorrheal, gout , dental pain, musculoskeletal disorders, fever
Route/Dosage: PO 200-400mg q4-6hr, not to exceed 3.2g/day
SE/AR: CNS; HA, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, tremors, confusion, insomnia, anxiety, depression CV; Tachycardia, peripheral edema, palpitations, dysrhythmias, CV thrombotic events, MI, stroke EENT; Tinnitus, hearing loss, blurred vision GI; Nausea, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, hepatitis, constipation, flatulence, cramps, dry mouth, peptic ulcer, GI bleeding GU; Nephrotoxicity, dysuria, hematuria, oliguria, azotemia HEMA; Blood dyscrasias, increased bleeding time, INTEG; Purpura, rash, pruritus, sweating, urticaria, necrotizing facitis SYST; Anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Nursing Interventions: Assess for infection, pain, musculoskeletal status, monitor liver and renal function studies, monitor blood studies, check I&O, assess for history of peptic ulcer disorder, assess for ototoxicity
Contraindications: avoid in 2nd/3rd trimester
Precautions: Pregnancy B(1st trimester), breastfeeding, children, geriatric, bleeding disorders, GI disorders, cardiac disorders, hypersensitivity to other anti-inflammatory agents, CHF

Action: Stimulates proliferation and differentiation of neutrophils; a glycoprotein
Use: To decrease infection in patients receiving antineoplastics that are myelosuppressive; to increase WBC in patients with product-induced neutopenia; bone marrow suppression
Route/Dosage: IV/SubQ 5mcg/kg/day in a single dosex14days; may increase by 5 mcg/kg in each chemotherapy cycle; give daily for up to 2wk until ANC has reached 10,000/mm3
SE/AR: CNS;fever GI; Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, mucositis, anorexia HEMA; thrombocytopenia, excessive leukocytosis INTEG; alopecia, exacerbation of skin conditions, urticaria, vasculitis MS; osteoporosis, skeletal pain OTHER; chest pain RESP; respiratory distress syndrome, wheezing
