Ecosystems

All living things are found in the places where they are adapted to the local condition, such as the local temperature & type of food available

Ecosystems include both abiotic & biotic conditions & can vary in size.

They can be as small as a pond or as big as an ocean

The place where an organism lives within an ecosystem is known as it's habitat

Ecological Niche

Within an ecosystem each organism has a niche.

A niche can only be occupied by one species however,it could look like 2 species are filling the same niche

For example 2 species could be eaten by the same predator but eat a variety of diff org

Niche

The niche a species occupies includes:

Biotic Interactions: living interactions, what the org eats & what is is eaten by

Abiotic Interactions: non living interactions, the temp range an org can live in or the time of day the org is active

Competitive Exclusion

If 2 species try to occupy the same niche, they will be in competition with one another

One species will eventually be more successful than the other, until only one species is left, this is known as COMPETITIVE EXCLUSION
