An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when an an astronomical object is temporarily obstructed. An eclipse can occur in 2 different ways, solar and lunar. Eclipses ussually last a few minutes to a few hours. These occur at least twice a year

A solar eclipse occurs when the sun is blocked out by the moon, either partially or completely. This only occurs for some places at a time, not the whole earth. I fexperiencing a total exlipse you are in the umbra and if only partial then you are in the penumbra.
