Define eclipse, both scientifically and more generally.
(noun)
1) the obscuring of one celestial body by another as seen from a third. "For Earthlings during a solar eclipse, the sun appeared to have a black disc pass over it. For residents of the moon, however, a line of shadow quickly slid over the the earth."
2) the passing into a shadow of another; "The eclipse of his career occurred by arriving on the world stage at the same moment as a historic superstar."
What is a lunar eclipse?
A lunar eclipse is when the moon passes into the shadow of the earth. The moon can still be seen but far more faintly because almost all the light from the sun does not reach it. Some light dispersed through the Earth's atmosphere and colored by the impurities there does get reflected from the moon's surpface.
