Specifically what about the church involved a “mystery,” according to Ephesians 3:3-6 and Colossians 1:26-27?
The bringing together of Jews and Gentiles in one body is called a "mystery." A "mystery" is something God had not revealed previously.
Give (3) specific instances of passages (the essence of the text of the passages will be sufficient)
where the term ekklēsia (singular) is used in the New Testament in reference to more than a single local group of believers and explain how we know that those passages do indeed refer to more than a single local group of believers.
1. Jesus declared, "On this rock I will build my church" (singular): Jesus was not referring to a particular local church. No local church is invincible.

2. Jesus "loved the church" (singular): Jesus did not die for a particular local church.

3. The church (singular) is called God's household… the pillar and foundation of the truth. No single congregation is "the pillar and foundation of the truth."
Is the church distinct from Israel? Give evidence for your answer.
Yes. Some people try to combine the church and Israel. Others try to apply to the church the promises that God made to Israel. However, the church is a distinct entity fro Israel. Some evidences:

1. After the church was established, Israel continued to be recognized as a people distinct from Gentiles and from the church.

2. Paul (a Jew himself) retains a distinction between Israel and the church in 1 Cor. 10:32: "Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God."
Is the church distinct from the kingdom of God? Give evidence for your answer.
Yes. Some try to combine the church and the kingdom of God, or believe that the church inaugurates the kingdom of God. Some evidences:

1. The terms "church" and "kingdom" are never used interchangeably.

2. The church is not mentioned in the OT, but the kingdom is mentioned throughout the OT.

3.The church is described as a mystery, but the kingdom was no secret.

4. The church exists in the present age, but the kingdom is future.

5. The church includes only saved human beings. The kingdom includes heavenly beings as well as human beings.
Describe the significance of the term “body of Christ.”
The church is not just an organization, but a living entity, or a body. Christ is the head and has authority and gives direction. All believers are members of the body and are united with Christ as the head. As members of the same body, we all serve and help each other through spiritual gifts.
Describe the significance of the fact that all New Testament believers are priests, according to 1 Peter 2:5, 9 and Revelation 1:6.
Believers are referred to as a holy and royal priesthood. 1 Peter 2:5 combines the figurative concepts of a building and a priesthood. In Revelation 1:6, believers are referred to as priests. In the OT, priests were servants to God and offered spiritual sacrifices.
Is Peter the “rock” upon which the church is built? Give evidence for your answer.
The church is NOT built on Peter. It is built on Jesus because Jesus is the rock. The name "Peter" means rock. In Matthew 16, Jesus tells Peter that "on this rock I will build my church. Though, Jesus was not giving supremacy to Peter. The church is founded upon Jesus and the truth that Peter proclaimed.
Give evidence that only believers should be baptized.
Baptism is meant to be an outward testimony that one has become saved, but nothing more. Baptism itself does not produce any spiritual change. Therefore, only believers should be baptized. In the Bible, after Jesus' death and resurection, believers were baptized AFTER they were saved. The books of Acts and Matthew command us to be saved and then be baptized.
Give evidence supporting baptism by immersion.
The primary meaning of "baptizo" is "to immerse." The prepostitions "into" and "out of" the water indicates that immersion was practiced. Immersion was practiced in Judaism and by early Christians. Every instance of believer's baptism in the New Testament allows for immersion.
The reading of the Scriptures took place among gatherings of people in the New Testament. What followed the reading of the Scriptures?
Followed by an explanation and application of the scriptures
What was the heart of the teaching in the first century church?
Jesus was indeed the Messiah. Jesus' claims about Himself were verified by His resurrection.
What is the antidote to false teaching?
Biblical teaching
