Scientific Method

basic process of scientific investigation. Begins with posting a question and ends by drawing a conclusion based on reproducible experimental results

Scientific method steps

1. Posing a question- formulated after some observation for which there is no answer

2. Forming a hypothesis- makes an educated guess to the answer of the question, follow an "if/then" format

3. Conducting the test- ID the control, constants, independent variables and dependent variables

4. Observe and record data- drawings, graphs, illustrations. Observations are objective. Analysis and interpretation are subjective

Independent variables

factors we change in an experiment

dependent variables

changes that arise from the changes in the independent variable

control

something we compare our results with at the end of the experiment. It is like a refrence, proves the results occured because of the changed conditions

constants

factors we keep the same in an experiment to get reliable results
