205.1.1 State and discuss your command’s mission statement.
The primary mission of HS-11 is to conduct carrier based all weather Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR); Provide fleet support for Naval Special Warfare (NSW), Search and Rescue (SAR) and VERTREP/utility operations while embarked aboard an aircraft carrier.
(1)Operate from fixed land bases, aircraft carrier and aviation facility ships. Simultaneously operate one ASW or CSAR detachment aboard H-60 capable combatants in company with the carrier task group.
(2)Perform all assigned missions within the capabilities of assigned aircraft.
(3)Perform anti-terrorist deterrent when directed by the battle group commander.
(4) Be capable of performing all assigned primary missions simultaneously.
205.2.1 Define ASW and discuss the role of the SH-60F in an ASW mission.
ASW is defined as the detection, localizing, and tracking of submarines whether surfaced or submerged. The SH-60F utilizes a dipping sonar and sonobuoys to achieve its goal. This helicopter additionally acts as a weapon delivery platform. It is capable of firing either the MK-46 or MK-50 torpedo to neutralize or destroy the submarine threat.
205.3.1 Define CSAR and discuss the role of the HH-60H in a CSAR mission.
CSAR is defined as the insertion of a specialized team, person, or personnel under hostile conditions. The HH-60H is primarily used because of its versatility. Can be equipped with two M-60D or M240 machine guns, and an array of specialized insertion/extraction equipment. The HH-60H also has the capability of detecting raiders and dispensing chaff and flares to decoy any surface to air threats.

Support any of military’s special warfare communities through reconnaissance flights to support their specific mission.

SAR is one of the many missions of the HS community. The SH-60F or the HH-60H are the primary rescue vehicles during all launch and recovery operations. The SAR crew consists of a pilot, co-pilot, rescue station crewman and a rescue swimmer. Both helicopters are capable of extended searches over numerous square miles.
