What is the definition of Bioaccumulation?

The tendency for pollutants to accumulate in organisms higher up in the food chain

How does energy flow within food chains?

Producers acquire energy from the sun through photosynthesis. Then the first order consumers eat the plants and only get 10% of that plants energy that it had. The second order consumer then eats the first order consumer and gets 10% of the energy that consumer had from eating the producers and so on

What is the Definition of Abiotic?

Non-Living Factors in an Environment

What is the definition of biotic?

Living factors in an environment

What are some examples of abiotic factors?

Temperature, Rainfall, Weather, Water level, pH levels, turbidity

What are some examples of biotic factors?

Animals, surrounding plants, types of organisms

What are 2 sampling techniques?

Quadrants and Transects

What is a quadrant?

A marked out square area used to record what's in its contents to accurately estimate percentage of vegetation and animals in the surrounding area

What is a transect?

A cross section that goes through an area where you record everything that is on that line, including; water level, meters above water, animals, ground type etc.

What are producers?

An organism that creates its own chemical energy

What are consumers?

An organism that gets energy by consuming other organisms

What are decomposers?

An organism that breaks down dead matter

Which way does this arrow point in a food chain?

In the direction the energy is flowing

What is the difference between the greenhouse effect and the enhanced greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is natural and the enhanced greenhouse effect is due to increased carbon dioxide because of use of fossil fuels

What are some causes for enhanced greenhouse effect?

Deforestation and increased combustion of fossil fuels

What are some human impacts on the environment?

Deforestation, bioaccumulation, combustion of fossil fuels

What is deforestation?

Clearing trees, turning a forest into cleared land
